Social Responsability

Social commitment and responsibility are part of our culture and values, and they are applied in each and every activity that we realize from day to day. At Mexichem we are committed to sustainable development because we know that this is the only way to achieve long-term viability as a firm and as a country.  Therefore, we have developed support programs for communities where our productive installations are found and where we have established agreements with the main universities in those regions to develop joint programs of association and training.

In compliance with its social responsibility, Mexichem contributes a monthly donation to the Fundación Kaluz A.C. to help those in need. The Foundation focuses those donations on beneficial efforts, seeking thereby to cover the basic subsistence requirements of food, clothing or housing, as well as activities that foment and support human development in aspects of knowledge, education, health, sports, arts and entertainment, tending to improve the quality of life.

In the search for social responsibility to be a commitment of everyone, we have developed, through the United Fund support programs for the community. The employees of our firms, aware of the needs of the communities where we operate, make voluntary contributions to the Fund. The employees themselves are in charge of creating an awareness campaign, and define, based on what is established by the United Fund the destination of the funds, which is verified through committees. Year on year, the percentages of participation and the amount collected have been increasing, thereby benefiting our communities and, what is most important: we are taking part in the solution.

In addition to our firms’ complying more than sufficiently with Mexican legislation as to the environment and security, we also have the Clean Industry Certification - we have adhered to the program of integral responsibility promoted by the ANIO (initials in Spanish for the National Association of the Chemical Industry), a program similar to that of Responsible Care developed in the United States. Primex has received important recognition for the degree of progress achieved in this program.

Likewise, we have the ISO 14001 Certification, and we have developed, jointly with other firms, the eco-efficiency concept directed to the economically efficient use of the by-products of the productive processes, which, as a result, generates environmental improvement. Through projects of this type, which significantly help the environment (since previously many of the by-products or residues of the processes had to be dealt with in a special way, generating higher costs or even having an environmental impact), now, an economic benefit is generated. In 2005, we placed first nationally in Thermal Energy Saving thanks to the energy efficiency program implemented at Chlorine of Tehuantepec.
