History

MEXICHEM born in 1998 as a new denomination of the group formed by Polímeros de Mexico and Química Pennwalt, jointly owned by Elf Atochem and the Grupo Empresarial Privado Mexicano (GEPM). In 1999, GEPM merges into Camesa Group and it became main stockholder since 2003, when it acquires the shares of the French group Total in the company´ s property.

In 2004, Mexichem acquires Química Flúor and integrated its operation with that of Minera Las Cuevas, the largest worldwide producer of fluorite, thereby becoming the largest producer of fluorhydric acid in the Americas. That same year, it acquires Primex, the largest Mexican producer of vinyl resins and compounds, incorporating into its organization decades of experience held by said company in the local vinyl market.

In 2005, MEXICHEM carry out a public offer of its shares in the Mexican Stock Market, thereby establishing a new financing platform for the company´ s growing. In 2006, it acquires the Bayshore Group, a producer of vinyl compounds in the United States, and arranges the merger of its distributor Tenedora Potcheca and Dermet de Mexico, to gain efficiency in the marketing of its own products.

In 2007, Mexichem acquires Amanco, leader supplier of solutions for fluid transport in the Latin American market. Almost simultaneously, it finalizes the purchase of PETCO, a Colombian vinyl manufacturer with a world class track record as exporter for over forty years, and also acquires 50% of the shares in Geon Polímeros Andinos, a vinyl compound leading producer. It continues thereby its strategy of providing a greater added value to the raw materials produced, so as to strengthen its global and regional leadership.
